Your beaches fishing connection
Panama City Charters is a cooperative effort of charter boat owners and Captains who have come together to help you take the guess work out of choosing a charter boat. All Captains are Coast Guard licensed with years of experience fishing out local waters. Our boats are equipped with modern electronics, safety equipment and are clean and comfortable.
Bottom Fishing
Bottom fishing is done as you might think “on the bottom.” The Captain takes the boat over an artificial reef or natural bottom where you will drop (fire down) a live or cut bait. With a little luck you should have a fish or at least a bite in a very short while.
Red Snapper, Grouper and Amberjack are some o our most sought after bottom fish. Although you can never tell what you ay come up with. Triggerfish, Vermillion Snapper, White Snapper, Black Snapper, plus many other fish including Shark, Mahi-Mahi, and Mackerels may be caught while bottom fishing.
Due to the depth of the water and the time it takes to get to the fishing spots it requires at least an eight hour trip to bottom fish, although most people prefer the ten-twelve hour trip. For our serious fishermen we also offer sixteen hour to two day trips.
Trolling 4-6 hr Trips
Trolling is fishing while the boat is always moving. Four to five lines are run out the back in a pattern and bait or lure is drug through the water. A fish strikes and the fight is on.
In mid March, “Spanish Mackerels” will start their migration. They range from 1-4 lbs. and when a large school is located it’s non-stop action. Spanish Mackerel is good eating and can be caught through November.
Next in April and May, Cobia (Ling) and Jack Crevales make their run through Panama City. They can be difficult to find, but are very exciting to catch and can be very large (over 100lbs). Spanish Mackerel is also caught while Cobia fishing.
When the water temperature gets just right (end of April, early June), it’s time for the King Mackerels. Kings as they are called are larger than the Spanish and can grow 40 to 60 lbs. They are found around large schools of bait, bottom structures and your Captains secret places.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring?
You’ll need to bring what you want to eat and drink because the boats don’t provide refreshments. Coolers are welcome and it is recommended that you bring more than enough. “You can take it off the boat at the end of the day, but there are no stores at sea”. You should have plenty of bottled water and easy to grab munchies.
A camera, sunscreen, hat, change of clothes and a rain coat, if the weather is calling for it, is also recommended.
I don’t know how to fish!?
No experience necessary. The Captain and Mate are there to help and show you the ropes. Fishing is fun for all ages and you can fish as little or as much as you wish.
What do we do with the fish?!
The Mate will take your catch to Treasure Island Seafood, a Fish Market located on the property, which charges a fee to process your catch. They will clean, store and ice your catch until you’re ready to leave for home.
What about cost?
Some of our boats are open boats with small cabin or no cabin at all. These boats carry up to four persons and the Captain works the boat alone since he is “on deck” with you. These boats are a great value for small parties $100.00 to $120.00 per hour.
Next our six passenger vessels, they average 40ft, have a cabin and many are air-conditioned. The “six packs” also have a first mate to assist you with rigging, baiting hooks, removing fish and anything else that may come up during the trip. The average cost of a six-passenger boat is $120.00 per hour.
Reservations and a deposit are required for all trips. You will get your deposit back in the event of in climate weather or high winds.
I can put together large company trips with multiple boats. Try to make reservations early to ensure you get your day. Talk to you soon!
